November 20 2018 — At the November, 2018 AGM, Judy Pillai was presented the Award For Exceptional Service in recognition of her contributions to RTO/ERO District 27. Judy is a long-time member of the Board of Directors. When joining the Board, Judy first assisted secretary Margaret Robson before she, herself, became secretary from 2007 until December 2017. Judy remains a member at large on the board, and she continues to serve.

In addition to being secretary, Judy has assumed many other responsibilities. For the last few years, she has organized the Wine & Cheese Reception for new RTO/ERO members at Kristy’s Restaurant. As well, everyone knows Judy as the pleasant smiling greeter and helpful assistant at the registration desk at most social events such as the Christmas Luncheons, Spring Luncheons and RPWs. Judy is always ready to volunteer with the Goodwill Committee to sign and label Christmas and birthday cards for the more than 900 RTO/ERO members who are eighty years and over.

Judy has a very busy social and community life outside of RTO/ERO, and she has volunteered with many community groups. Judy is a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) and, through it, is a member of several groups including The University Women Helping Afghan Women (UWHAW) raising funds for Afghan women attending university in Afghanistan, and an English conversation group which, with the help of diplomats, assists women who wish to improve their English. Judy is also a member of the Diplomatic Hospitality Group. Judy was a volunteer at the Shirley Green Health Center at the Riverside Hospital.

Judy loves to take in Ottawa’s rich cultural life by going to chamber music concerts and NAC English theatre. She has been involved with the Friends of English Theatre as secretary—she is now a committee member—to raise funds to support the National Arts Centre.

Congratulations and thank you Judy!
