RTO/ERO District 27, Ottawa-Carleton, is a vibrant, active organization made up of Retired Teachers and other Education workers. It is a not-for-profit organization. Even in retirement, our members continue to give back to their communities and volunteer in various ways. They do so not only by volunteering and giving of their valuable time, energy, and expertise but also through community out-reach programs such as RTO/ERO’s University and College Scholarship and Bursaries programs which grants 25 bursaries of $1500 to students in their final year. Locally, District 27 grants four bursaries of $500 each are given to students at Algonquin College and La Cité collégiale annually.

Faith Thomson, grand-daughter of local member Louise Perrault, is one of two students to be awarded the 2019 District 27 RTO/ERO University Scholarship.

Faith is currently studying for a joint Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History and Political Science at Carleton University. Her goal is eventually to study at McGill University with a joint degree in L.L.B/B.C.L/M.B.A to build the necessary skillset to attain the following goals:

• Become a confident lawyer with experience in corporate and sexual assault law.
• Open a not-for-profit organization that provides communities and education institutions with fun workshops defining consent to children and youths.
• Perhaps become a Senator and use the experience and knowledge she has gained to guide and assist Canada. 

The second winner, Jonathan Favero, sponsored by member Dean Favero, will be featured in the fall editon of Horizons 27.
